Originally from Illinois, just north of St. Louis, Missouri, they earned a B.S. in environmental management from Western Kentucky University in 2002. After several years in environmental consulting, they attended Nashville School of Law while working full time, graduating in 2012 and beginning legal practice in 2013. They later built a private criminal defense practice before joining the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Tennessee as an Assistant District Attorney General in 2015, where they prosecuted cases ranging from shoplifting to capital murder and tried nearly 30 jury trials.
